Project Overview -
Little Nightmares is an original collectible series that reimagines three of cinema's most iconic monsters through a playful designer toy lens. Inspired by the enduring legacy of classic monster films, the collection transforms Dracula, The Mummy, and The Wolf Man into a trio of irresistibly cute vinyl-style characters that celebrate horror without sacrificing humor.
The project explores the visual tension between spooky and adorable, using simplified forms, expressive silhouettes, and approachable personalities to create a collection that feels equally at home on a toy shelf or in a horror fan's collection.
The Concept -
Classic movie monsters have captivated audiences for generations through atmosphere, mystery, and unforgettable character design. With Little Nightmares, the goal was to preserve the instantly recognizable traits of each monster while translating them into a charming, stylized collectible language.
Rather than emphasizing fear, the designs embrace personality. Dracula becomes an enthusiastic little host, the Mummy is more cuddly than cursed, and the Wolf Man looks ready for a midnight game instead of a full moon hunt. Each figure celebrates the playful side of horror while remaining instantly recognizable.
Design Challenge -
The primary challenge was finding the balance between iconic and original.
Each character needed to be instantly recognizable while sharing a unified visual language across the collection. Proportions, facial features, scale, and surface detail were intentionally simplified to create a cohesive family of collectibles that felt like they belonged together rather than existing as individual figures.
Beyond silhouette and sculpt, I wanted each character to possess a distinct sense of humor. Rather than relying solely on the monsters themselves, every figure was paired with a tongue-in-cheek accessory that playfully references its classic mythology without taking itself too seriously.
Dracula confidently sports a pair of sunglasses—because after centuries of avoiding daylight, they're less of a fashion statement and more of a necessity. The Mummy comes equipped with a stack of three miniature toilet paper rolls, a lighthearted nod to a lifetime spent wrapped in endless layers of bandages. The Wolf Man includes a wooden hairbrush, because even the wildest beast has to tame the mane before a full moon.
These accessories serve as visual punchlines, reinforcing the collection's central design philosophy: horror icons can be both creepy and irresistibly charming.
Every sculpt, accessory, and expression was also developed with vinyl production in mind, emphasizing clean forms, strong silhouettes, and manufacturing-friendly geometry suitable for premium collectible production.
Design Process - Development began by identifying the defining visual characteristics of each monster and reducing them to their most recognizable shapes. Once the silhouettes were established, I explored proportions, facial expressions, and costume elements that could communicate each character's personality with minimal detail.
The designs were then sculpted digitally, refining surface transitions, costume elements, and expressive forms while maintaining a consistent scale and aesthetic across the series. Throughout the process, manufacturability remained an important consideration, ensuring each character retained clean forms suitable for production.
Character Lineup
Dracula
Elegant, charismatic, and always ready to welcome guests into his castle—whether they leave is another story.
The Mummy
Wrapped from head to toe but somehow still the friendliest member of the group, proving ancient curses can still come with a smile.
The Wolf Man
A lovable troublemaker whose bark is much bigger than his bite, bringing mischievous energy and playful charm to the collection.

Reflection
Little Nightmares represents my passion for taking familiar ideas and transforming them into something fresh through thoughtful design. By distilling iconic monster archetypes into a cohesive family of playful collectibles, the project demonstrates how strong visual storytelling can bridge generations of fans.
Beyond individual character design, this project challenged me to think as both a designer and an art director—developing not just three figures, but a complete collectible line with a consistent identity, shared design language, and room to grow into future characters, seasonal releases, and expanded product collections.
